Elements is a power metal band from Vantaa, Finland.
It was founded by
Jarmo Hyvärinen and Joni Juuti in 2001. The boys has known each other since
childhood days and they already started playing in 1996, after founding
Metallica. Till 2001 they mostly played Metallica-covers and Finnish Punk-Rock,
until they found the melodic sound of Stratovarius and Iron Maiden and also
gained the skills to compose.
Drummer Ilpo Luoma joined the band in
early 2002, after hearing Joni’s bands demo-tape in his school. Elements was
then known as Chaos. For the next years, the band also had Johanna Salonen at
vocals and Aki Madetoja playing bass. Both of them quitted the band in 2006 due
to lack on passion for Elements.
This is considered to be Elements'es
first actual line-up, hence with this group Elements played its first live show
in 2005 and also made its first proper studio produced demo, called “Fire” in
the same year. Fire was only printed amount of 200 copies and later 100 copies
more and today its very rare to find.
After this, remaining members
Jarmo, Joni and Ilpo had very dissapointing year with the band.
Breaking up
was a close call and other things was going first to music, until autumn 2007
the boys decided to have one more go in the search of new vocalist and bass
player.
After 20 or so female candidates, Ida-Katharina
Lindell was found and asked to join the band.
During the years, Elements had
made several record-ready tracks and it was soon decided to start the recording
of their debut album with self-production. Recording of the ”Northern Echoes”
started in Hyvinkää, Finland at Rockstar Studio’s in May 2008. It was recorded
and mixed by Arto Kantola, who is also the formal guitar teacher for both, Jarmo
and Joni. It was mastered by Mika Jussila (Finnvox) and coverartwork was done by
Jan “Örkki” Yrlund.
In the Summer of 2008 Elements played two gigs and
released it's first single called "One in the Dark" from the fourthcoming album.
Short period of time, Ida’s brother, Simon Lindell was actual member of the
band, but was soon forced to step aside due to broken wrist and lack of passion
for Elements alike of music. Simon is still a good friend with the band and can
be seen in the audience also. The bass player live replacement, Jani Seppänen,
fitted the band perfectly and was asked to join the band in July 2008.
In November 2008 Elements shot a music video for the song "One in the
dark" and it was filmed at Sipoo and Vantaa. It was directed and edited by Sami
Mäkelä.
Debut album “Northern Echoes” was released 16th of February
2009 and it’s currently on-sale in Finland, Japan and United States.
In 17th
of May 2009 Elements won Voice TV Finland’s music video contest and gain radio
and TV popularity.
After growing myspace popularity, the band has fans
from all over the world, especially from: Japan, Center-Europe, South-America
and United States.
